Four children from a newly blended family are sent on a boating excursion so they can bond with one another. When they find themselves stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific, they’re put to the test. Charles Carroll’s steady and articulate narration heightens the tension of the story and captures the children’s fear as they bicker about how best to survive. Carroll’s range of voices credibly captures the personality and emotions of each of the children—from energetic Vanessa and her brother, quiet intelligent Benjamin, to tough Carter and his younger sister, Jane. Carroll’s performance enhances the book’s drama and makes for captivating listening. M.F. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine
