Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Naomi Butler
This story describes how hiker Amy Racina survived a fall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Amy was excited to begin her hiking trip in the summer of 2003. She hiked alone and loved the wilderness. On the 12th day of her planned 17 days she hiked into Tehipite Valley in Kings Canyon National Park. Hikers rarely entered Tehipite, where the steep and rocky trails are dangerous even for an experienced hiker. Amy fell after she lost the trail she was following. She landed in a ravine but was grateful to be alive. Amy used a silk scarf to stop the bleeding from her knee. She had enough food for a few days and was close to a stream. She yelled for help, and after three days she heard a whistle in the distance. Rangers with a helicopter lifted her from the ravine. The hikers who rescued her were the only ones who went by in a week. She is still hiking and enjoying the wilderness. An attractive cover and helpful information is included. This is part of the "True Tales Survival" series/Edge Books. Reviewer: Naomi Butler
