I loved this book!
After reading the 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy by E.L. James I was at a loss as to what to read next. I read several rather disappointing books in the same genre and finally did a search on the internet intending to ask the question "Can anyone recommend a book like 50 Shades?" Well evidently I was one of many people asking the same question and this book came up recommended by several people. So I bought it in E-book format and read it in less than 24 hours. BTW if you haven't read 50 shades of Grey drop what you're doing this minute and buy it and then come back and buy this one! After reading this one however I discovered that this book really was not that much like 50 Shades at all. Well kind of... The set up was the same. Girl from modest upbringing meets famous rich guy who needs to be tamed. Not a novel concept but how they came to meet each other and what happens after that is entirely different. Like Christian, Charlie is adopted and has issues related to that. He's gorgeous, sexy and insatiable but due to his wealth and fame he's reluctant to trust or get close to anyone enough to fall in love. But the similarities end there. Charlie is much more outwardly vulnerable, (frankly a little too emotional for my taste). He doesn't have a ton of secrets he's hiding. In this case Kate is the one with all of the secrets and Charlie is the one trying to break down her barriers more so than the other way around. One other thing that was similar about these two books is the HOT HOT, squirm in your seat, love scenes. But where 50 Shades had a lot of soft core BDSM this book hardly even touched on that. But trust me, the love scenes were hot nonetheless. There was enough character development to feel like I cared about these two lost souls and wanted them to find happiness together. The feelings between the characters in a lot of the romance novels I've read in this genre move way to fast. Within days the couples are in love and ready to spend their lives together and it's just not believable. Both authors, Elsborg and James, took their time allowing us to see more now the feelings developed over a period of time. While faster than normal in both cases, it wasn't so fast that I found it impossible to believe the feelings that Kate and Charlie were feeling for each other. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book and am now very interested to read what else Mrs Elsborg has written and I was pleasantly surprised to learn how prolific she has been.
