Strategic Paradigms 2025: U.S. Security Planning for a New Eraby Jacquelyn K. Davis, Michael J. Sweeney
The uncertainty of the post-Cold War world greatly complicates the task of long-range strategic planning. In an effort to stimulate thinking on developments and trends over the next quarter century, this new Special Report from the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis sets forward four alternative visions of future international systems that could arise by the year 2025. It further discusses their implications for long-term U.S. foreign and defense planning. Specific emphasis is placed on discussing impacts the next quarter century will likely see on three key pillars of U.S. security strategy: American alliances, American ability to deter aggressors, and American ability to field military forces superior to those of any potential adversary. General analyses of future global and regional trends along with likely developments in technology and warfare are also included.
