Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Shirley Nelson
In the sixth of the "Stravaganza" series, the Barnsbury Stravaganti stick together as they share the secret of time travel. As they reminisce about their experiences traveling to the 16th century world of Talia, they speculate who will be the next to join their ranks. At the same time, their friend Laura is struggling with her unhappiness and habit of cutting herself to relieve her pain. On a visit to Mortimer Goldsmith's shop, she finds a beautiful antique dagger that proves to be the talisman that will take her to the Talian city of Fortezza. Upon the death of Prince Jacopo di Chimici, his daughter Princess Lucia is set to claim the throne. However, her claim is challenged by Ludo Vivoide, a Manoush, who says he is the son of Jacopo and, therefore, the rightful heir to the throne. Unsure of her task, Laura finds herself amidst the turmoil, and, to complicate matters more, she is falling in love with Ludo. The Barnsbury Stravaganti find they must band together to make frequent trips to Talia to work with the Stravaganti there to bring a resolution to the conflicts and save the lives of their friends. Fans of the series will savor this richly detailed picture of 16th century life as well as the very real lives of the 21st century teens that travel there. A Talian map, a di Chimici family tree, and a list of characters are helpful to those unfamiliar with the series. Reviewer: Shirley Nelson
