Overview

Three-time Christy Award winner Lynn Austin returns to the Old Testament in The Strength of His Hands. She continues her uplifting series with the reign of King Hezekiah in Judah, who is noted for establishing a state that worshipped only one God, Yahweh. God has blessed Hezekiah—his kingdom is flourishing. The people are prospering and the city of Jerusalem is safe from invaders. But the king worries that his beloved wife may be barren. After all his hard work in preserving the faith and protecting the faithful, the thought that one of his pagan-worshiping nephews will become ruler is upsetting. But he suffers greater anguish when he stumbles upon the secrets of his queen. Austin skillfully conveys the weaknesses of human nature in this mesmerizing tale about the power of faith and redemption. Austin's Gods and Kings and Song of Redemption, are also available from Recorded Books.

Editorial Reviews

Midwest Book Review
"The third tome of the fabulous Chronicles of the Kings series, THE STRENGTH OF HIS HAND, offers a terrific look at King Hezekiah's reign at a time of moral and religious crisis that threatens to destroy all he believed in and worked to achieve. Interestingly, the transgression of worshipping the false god by Hephzibah was done out of love for her spouse (good intentions can be an express way to hell). As Lynn Austin did with the insightful SONG OF REDEMPTION and GODS AND KINGS, fans will learn much about ancient Judah while cherishing this excellent work of biblical fiction."

    Great work of biblical fiction

King Hezekiah has returned his people to worshipping only Yahweh after the brutal paganism that highlighted the reign of his sire. With the return to praying to the One God, Judah has seen prosperity. Perhaps the only thing that has not gone right for the monarch is the lack of an heir this especially disturbs his beloved wife Hephzibah.------- Desperate to bear a male child, Hephzibah visits a pagan shrine worshiping the fertility goddess Asherahl and offers a deal to this false deity. Stunned when he learns what his wife did that broke the Commandant and the key principle to his reign, an irate Hezekiah devastates the pagan shrine. However, he is severely injured because of his berserker ranting. Once calm he knows his country¿s future is at stake so he turns to God for help and forgiveness for him, his wife, and their people. God answers through the prophet Isaiah who provides direction to clean his house and to select his heir.------- The third tome of the fabulous Chronicles of the Kings series, THE STRENGTH OF HIS HAND, offers a terrific look at King Hezekiah¿s reign at a time of moral and religious crisis that threatens to destroy all he believed in and worked to achieve. Interestingly, the transgression of worshipping the false god by Hephzibah was done out of love for her spouse (good intentions can be an express way to hell). As Lynn Austin did with the insightful SONG OF REDEMPTION and GODS AND KINGS, fans will learn much about ancient Judah while cherishing this excellent work of biblical fiction.--- Harriet Klausner

Exciting novel based of the truth of the Bible.

This is the best of Lynn Austin's Chronicles of the Kings series yet.The novel captured my attention on the very first page and kept it until the end. Even knowing what happens eventually because of my reading the Bible I was surprised and wanted to read every word of the book. Ms. Austin has written a exceptional story based on true events and I can't wait to read the rest of them.

Strength of his Hands by Lynn Austin

Third book in the God and Kings series. King Hezekiah's judgement and pride come into play in this book as the Assyrians start war. The Kings wife is in exile and the Kings life seems to be coming apart. This is a five star book in a ten star series. Will Hezikiah ever have an heir to his throne ?

Enjoyed this entire series of books. It helped me reflect on idolatry, the consequences, and at the same time, on God's forgiveness and grace.

One of the things I love about this series is that all the details from the previous books have not been repreated over and over. There are so many emotions expressed in this novel and it is heart wrenching. I also love that the characters are not perfect and this is not a sappy Christian novel. Very well written, bringing the Bible to life.

    So Touching...so real

This series truly makes the reader feel as though you are living through the experience. I felt like I knew the Prophet Isaiah and King Hezakiah. You can actually open your Bible and walk through the general story line while reading Lynn Austin's book. She has such a way of making the story so personal. I cried with the King. I hurt for his wife. I felt for his right hand man. And definitely received an indepth appreciation for the truly major importance of the placement of prophets as they related to the kings of the Old Testament. They were so much more than advisors. They were the "mouthpiece of God" for the Kings that revered Him.

I have already purchased book #4 but I think I am going to read another book first because there is only book 4 and then 5 is the last in this series. My heart will be broken. I know she has other books out there. I will have to check them out!

Anyone that love the precious Word of God and appreciates the richness found in the History of the Old Testment (the Lord Jesus Christ concealed) will absolutely 200% enjoy this series!

    Blessings and peace to all...

    Just keeps getting better

Book #3 in the series. Each book seems better than the last if that's possible. I was hooked after book 1 "Of gods and kings". I've never read much fiction...but this series of historical fiction is fantastic and a fast read.

    Inspiring

This book in the series, helped me see God's love for me and his awesome power in a whole new light. As a women who was raised in the church, sometimes you feel like yeah I know that in my head, but my heart lacks. My heart no longer lacks! This just helped me see even Isaiah as just a man, a man who allowed God in....nothing more. King Hezakiah as a man.... a man who made mistakes, paid for them, yet still new his God had the power to save him and mercy to cover him. What a wonderful God we have!

    Good series

This is a great series - only the books cost $5.80 each and they could probably be condensed into 2 maybe 3 books. Kind of a rip off. But they are really good. They contain scriptures and the accounts are biblical and the author has painted the bigger picture of Chronicles and Kings with back story. I would love to find more books like this.
