Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverly Melasi
Strength training uses resistance to build muscles. Resistance training can come from one's own body weight or from using weights to train. It is so important to strength train because strength is needed in every sport. Training requires working both sides of the body or muscle group equally. One should also wait a day between strength training sessions in order to help avoid injuries. The core of the body needs to be kept strong and balanced. The abdominals, oblique's, and lower back are the muscle areas that make up the core. Strength moves from the legs and hips up to the arms and shoulders by passing through the body's core. Kenney does a great job using large, vivid photographs and examples to explain the huge impact that strength training has on an athlete's performance. The words and easy-to-read sentences make this book a fun read. It is an interesting book for children and parents to read together. The book is a great way for teen athletes to learn how to strength train in order to improve athletic performance. Reviewer: Beverly Melasi
