If there┬┐s one flaw to this novel, it is having a common plot. I

If there’s one flaw to this novel, it is having a common plot. It lacks the element of surprise that made most novel exciting and the readers looking forward to what the next page awaits. However, even though I have read about a hundred of this kind of novel, and even though I have an inkling of how the story will progress and end, I find this novel refreshing for the following reasons…
First, in this day and age where erotic romance seems to be the mainstream of romance literature, it’s nice to read about stories like this where you get to see or take a second look at what love is about. This book tells about the kind of love that took time to bloom and as well as feelings that have stood the test of time. It’s like an adult fairy tale. The kind of goes happily ever after surviving the realities of life.
Second, the writer has a way with words. Emotions are something that are not easily put into words. Yet, despite the common plot, the author have manage to dress it with raw emotions that one that you can feel piercing into your heart just by reading them. And that was what made the book so hard to put down even if you can guess what will happen next. I may have read a hundred of stories like this, but I definitely didn’t feel all the emotions I have felt in this novel a hundred times. Only few authors can make me feel that way which makes me think that having the emotions by the characters be felt by the readers deep within is actually a gift. Something that you either have or you don’t. And Cheryl Douglas definitely have that gift.
Next is the hero Zach. I love how his feelings were very apparent from the beginning till the end. In romance novels like this, the hero are usually the latter to define their feelings for the heroine. But Zach here was not like that which made him an endearing book boyfriend material.
And since this is a series, it makes you curious about all the characters aside from Zach and Rennie. The author have manage to squeeze really interesting characters other than the main ones that will have you looking forward to the next book.

Strike Out. Texas Titans 1. Cheryl Douglas Review from Jeannie Z

Strike Out. Texas Titans 1. Cheryl Douglas
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I liked the sound of this, I have a soft spot for re-connections in romance, and with a child there's a solid link. So how did it work for me? Well, poor Lauren, when she heard Zach's comments the night before the wedding I understood her despair and sorrow. They were both young, and maybe that affected how they saw things. Lauren wouldn't stay and discuss his comments, he wasn't really thinking about what he said.. never the less it had a huge impact on their lives and then ten years later they meet again.
Rennie loves her son, and is naturally very protective of him. Whether she's right in her actions who knows? Life is always a gamble, and we do what we feel is best, she did and had to live with the results. Now Zach is back, and through her work she meets him and he learns about Tyler, his son. That part was neatly done :) Tyler certainly showed initiative! Zach's plagued with guild about his comments on that fateful night, but also annoyed, and upset that he's missed on his son's early years. He's determined he'll play a part in his life now, but Rennie..where does that leave her?
I felt for them both, young and bound by decisions and comments that may not have been made had they both talked before, or even after them. Still, they didn't and now they have to pick up. I'm torn between feeling for Zach, who's missed so much of his sons life, and Rennie, who made a decision while emotional and has to live with it. The past can't be changed but she's terrified how Tyler will react when he finds out that Zach is his father and not Nathan, the dad he'd had who died a year before. It's easy to look back and say “well she should have...” but in practice its never really the right time we tell ourselves when there's something we find hard to do. Now it's all caught up with her and the decision out of her hands. She's worried. Will Zach want custody? Will Tyler want to live with him, and how will he take that she never told him the truth about his father? Its a real nightmare time for her, and all she's ever tried to do is keep Tyler happy.
There's lots of emotion here, a decent and believable storyline and a romance that didn't drop. I'd have liked a bit deeper heartbreak ( yeah, I’m a sucker for books that make me cry!) before it all went well but that's me. Overall a fun read, not one I’d reread but certainly worth the £1.85 for 215 pages it costs.
    Stars: Four.
