Overview

The most original kid detective since Encyclopedia Brown!

Striker Jones is a resourceful boy who can't help but be drawn into mysteries. Along with his friends Bill, Sheila, and Amy, Striker must use his wits to solve the many intriguing puzzles - and even crimes - that come his way. Unlike most boys, however, he draws upon his knowledge of basic economics to solve each mystery.

This funny, classic kids detective novel will teach your children economic concepts like incentives, risk, supply and demand, and trade-offs. But we promise - there's no jargon, only fun!

Named "Recommended Reading" by the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project, the Midwest Book Review calls Striker Jones a "fun and rollicking series" with "effortless teaching of both cooperation values and basic economics."

Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite Striker Jones: Elementary Economics For Elementary Detectives, Second Edition (Volume 1) by Maggie M. Larche does a delightful job of teaching children the concepts of economics in a fun and easy way. Striker Jones and his friends - Sheila, Bill and Amy - will keep readers entertained with their detective acts where they use the concepts of economics to solve puzzles and mysteries. Readers get to learn about supply, demand, incentives, risks and other concepts of economics. The mini-mystery plot and the conversational dialogue connect well with readers, where they will find learning economics fun and easy. The book takes the study of economics to an entirely new dimension where the story and the entertainment make the learning part look very easy. What a perfect way to teach children. The author does it with expertise and the manner in which she teaches the concept is interactive as well as innovative. Each story ends with a question that will make young readers ponder. The book is a must-have in every school library and I would recommend the parents of school-going kids to have one in their personal collection. Each mystery in the book stands on its own and is not only about the concepts of economics but also about friendship and bonding. The author writes with precision and clarity, making it easy for children to understand, and also for use in classrooms for individual lessons. Books like these are ideal for children to learn and practice new ideas and concepts, and also understand in a fun way without making it sound difficult.
