Overview

Rex Martinez is one tough Texas Ranger who's always gotten his man. No woman has ever resisted him either. But the saucy little number currently under his protection makes him nuts. Makes him hard. And makes him eager to put her in her place . . . which is, of course, in his arms. And his bed.

Crime writer Skye Chamberlain chafes under Rex's rigid rules. He's too macho, too yummy to stay cooped up with while she's trying to remain celibate.

When Skye calls his bluff and demands they embrace their relationship now instead of later, Rex can't resist. But his need to keep her hot and happy makes him drop his guard-which is exactly when trouble comes calling.

    Short novella.

    Review by Jen:
This novella (roughly 80 pages according to my Nook) just missed the mark for me. The first half of the book was all about Rex and Skye falling into bed and then the second half was about the repercussions of their actions. The plot was pretty simplistic. Skye witness a murder and is now under the protection of Rex, a Texas Ranger, as they await her appearance in court.

Small spoilers ahead... you've been warned.

Within the first 5 or so pages, you're told there's been some sexual tension between Skye and Rex, but you don't actually see it as they're falling into bed pretty quickly (from our point of view). I think this book really could have used a bit of that tension to make the story more satisfying. But what really rubbed me the wrong way was that Rex is on the job and is supposed to be guarding Skye from the bad guys. But he gives into his libido and ultimately ends up putting her in danger... and then there's no real consequence for his actions. I know it's fiction, but I feel like there needs to be a touch of reality, and in the case of this book, the reality isn't there. I can see an affair happening in real life. But for the characters to get their happily ever after without Rex getting in trouble at work for crossing that line... The book would've been better if that had been addressed and overcome.

Rant over. The book wasn't horrible, but some aspects of it just didn't sit well with me and it made it hard for me to enjoy the story.
