Meet the Author

Bret Contreras, MS, CSCS, has established himself as the world's leading expert in gluteal muscle functioning and development. Known in the Strength & Conditioning industry as "The Glute Guy," Contreras continues on his quest to unravel the optimum training methods surrounding the gluteal muscles as he pursues his PhD in Sports Science at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.

A graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University, Kellie Davis turned to writing as a profession, with an emphasis on fitness and sports nutrition. She also assists clients in achieving optimum health and wellness as a certified personal trainer.

I bought this book yesterday and had read it all by the end of the day. I have the nook version and the graphics are less than great, with charts being cut off on the left side. My copy also has a picture mis-labeled. I emailed Bret about that and some confusion I had about the various workout plans and much to my delight he replied the very next day. When he wasn't sure about one question, he forwarded it to Kellie, who also emailed me that very day. I was so impressed! They obviously truly care about their readers/clients and want you to succeed. When I complained that you cannot photocopy their workout journal template on a nook (it sits back from the copier glass and is out of focus) Kellie told me she'd get the pdf's of the workout journals to me via email. Wow, talk about responding to customers' needs! Regarding the content of the book, it looks amazing. The various workout plans are obviously put together very carefully and with research backing them up. The appendix has detailed descriptions of the various exercises which is great. I have been a gym rat for a while, so I think I know a great workout plan when I see one, and these are that. I started one of the plans this morning, and my glutes were so w-o-r-k-e-d! I think I'm in love. Oh, and if I were to do it all over again,I think I'd get the pb version. Some books, for me anyway (like cookbooks), are just better in print so you can flip through them easier.

If you want to know the who, what, when, where, why and how of glute training, this book is for you. Bret and Kellie have put together one of the most thorough and comprehensive fitness books on training the glutes that I have ever seen. It is truly an encyclopedia of glute training, glute knoweldge and a step by step of "how to work towards creating strong glutes which will in turn create a strong body" book. I have been a fan of Bret's for over three years and began supplementing my program with barbell glute bridges and hip thrusts since the fall of 2010. When I began lifting seriously after a horrible back injury, I started with back squats and deadlifts, staples of any strength program, but also incorporated the glute bridges and hip thrusts into my training as well. I started with just bodyweight but quickly moved to the barbell after only a few weeks. I loved them. I added front squats to my program later on. I was getting stronger and my body was changing but honestly, I did not realize at the time what was happening to my body, mainly my glutes, until I had a picture taken of me the end of May of 2011. When I saw the picture of me from 2010 and then from 2011, I was literally dumbstruck. All that squatting, deadlifting, glute bridging and hip thrusting had given me a stronger, tighter, healthier body. And all I wanted was to be stronger so that my back never gave me trouble again. And I was. But I also had an, excuse me for saying, kick ass body to boot. ;-) Now I have all of Bret's work at my fingertips. I believe that this book is an excellent resource for women who have already begun strength training and are now looking to really step up their program and for trainers and coaches with female clients who want to take their clients to the next level of fitness. I have been waiting since June for this book and it was definitely well worth the wait. Bret and Kellie's passion for training and fitness shine through page after page. I appreciated Bret's no nonsense attitude about good glutes vs. bad glutes, emphasizing over and over again that the stronger your glutes are, the better your glutes will look and the better your body will look. And I appreciated the balance between their talk of "looking better" and "getting stronger." We all want to look good but I feel, as many others do, that when you are stronger, the "looking better" just comes as a result. However, you still have to work at it. And that is exactly what Bret and Kellie reiterate over and over again. The opening chapters tackle why the glutes are important to how you build the glutes to nourishing the glutes to how to make the most out of this program. Strong Curves is NOT just a book with some pretty pictures and a couple exercises. It is an incredible resource, one that you will refer to over and over and over again as you continue your journey towards a stronger body. The programs are not designed for you to do for a few weeks and then try something else. They are designed for you to utilize on a daily basis for years to come.

As a professional bikini competitor I pride myself with working with the best and learning from the best. I felt that I had good knowledge of glute training before reading this book, but I was so wrong. Beginner to advanced ithe material is broken down so it's easy to umderstand and to implement. I absolutely love it. Highly reccomend.

For women looking to learn about their anatomy and how to shape up your buns, Strong Curves is a must read. I have to admit that I am an amateur when it comes to fitness. Yes, I’ve worked with personal trainers and learned quite a bit from them but who needs one when this book can educate oneself and not have to pay hundreds of dollars. Strong Curves explains correct movement examples and important elements when building the figure of a woman. Something else that I found attractive about this book was that it does not read like a text book. It has wit and seems as though the writer used simple terminology that is easily understood for a beginner. I have always wanted to build my muscles and am excited to implement the exercises and plan suggested by Bret and Kellie.

This book lives up to all the buzz about it. I've read a multitude of women's fitness and diet books over the years, only to close the pages with a sigh of disappointment. I was a bit hesitant to dive into this one, but after reading the preface and introduction, I was hooked. The content of this book is so lively and refreshing, yet it dives into the science behind fitness training-- including lots of facts about the glutes that I never knew. It's packed with so much valuable information that I honestly feel the program (4 programs at 12 weeks each) are just a bonus. Each chapter reads like its own book, and it all comes together in a cohesive manner to provide a greater understanding as to why the exercise programs where designed a specific way. In addition, the exercise index is incredible. I truly feel like Bret and Kellie have created a book that I will come back to time and again.

Kellie and Brett do an outstanding job of describing and conveying the science and practical application behind building a strong lean body for a women. This book if filled with tons of exercises and routines for all levels of experience. The focus of this book is on building glute strength but is one of the best books I have ever read for total body fitness and perhaps the quintessential book on women's strength training. This one is already a classic in my mind and will be a total game changer in the world of women's fitness. Buy it now and count yourself as one of the enlightened ones!

From muscle mechanics, nutrition, female anatomy, to as Bret writes, " the muscles no one talks about" (the pelvic floor) Bret and Kellie have covered it all in an easy to understand manner. I daresay, this is the best "fitness" book for women I've ever read (and I've read many)! You get warm ups and mobility routines, four 12-week training programs for all fitness levels, training logs and full color photos of Kellie demonstrating the exercises. Ladies, a must if you want to get strong, lean and shapely. And guys, even though the book is geared towards women, if you want strong glutes, I recommend getting yourself a copy and throwing a few of the glute exercises into your training sessions. You won't regret it!

I highly recommend Strong Curves for any women looking to get in better shape, or for personal trainers that work with women. I believe that a good workout book must address both the “whys” and the “hows”, and Strong Curves does that beautifully. The first part of the book delves into the science behind muscle building, while the second part of the book details how to eat and how to exercise to get great results. The program is extremely comprehensive and user-friendly. Each exercise—even warm-up exercises for that matter—is accompanied by pictures demonstrating both the correct form, as well as common form flaws to avoid. As detailed as the program is, Bret and Kellie have done a great job of making the information easily digestible, so the entire process is laid out for you every step of the way. All you need to do is follow the program and you’ll be well on your way to getting in phenomenal shape.

I got my ebook copy of Strong Curves last night and just finished it this evening. Fantastic book and I can't wait to get started tomorrow on my first twelve week progression. I've been experimenting with glute bridging and hip thrusts for about seven months now and loving the results from just seeing what I can do with those. The husband has definitely not been complaining! And I absolutely love being liberated from the cardio machines and feeling strength of body to match my strength of spirit. I'm thrilled to now have a virtual trainer to walk me through a well-rounded (pun intended) program. THANK YOU!
