    DON BENDELL'S "STRONGHEART" (A REVIEW)

From the moment you first begin reading you are transported to the wild west, where Indians hunt and survive on their wits to being a part of a real life stage coach robbery. I felt as though I were watching the entire story unfold right before my eyes and could feel each bullet that Joshua Strongheart took in his quest to keep his word. You can't help but fall in love with Don's handsome hero as he tears up the countryside on his intended path to right a severe wrong. This man has morals, strength, and a heart of gold... is it any wonder the women fall head over heels for him?

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the sequel. Don Bendell is a master storyteller and I hope he never stops writing Westerns. It's been a long time since I've found someone I enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed Louis L'amour. I long to see the revival of good quality Western novels and I believe that Don Bendell will be an active participant in making it happen! If you love Westerns and stories about heroes that are true men, you must read this book!

This is as much a fabulous richly textured historical thriller as much as an exhilarating western saga

Joshua Strongheart is a half-breed who has lived in both of the worlds of his biological parents. He feels he fails to fit in either and insists he no longer cares as he is satisfied with being a loner. Yet he also holds close to his heart the only two items he cherishes: his father Claw Mark's Bowie knife that he gave to his mother to give to Joshua; and his stepfather Flower Valley Marshal Dan Cooper's Colt .45 Peacemaker.

A Pinkerton secret courier, Joshua delivers a letter from the President to General Davis in Oregon to insure Captain Jack and his Modoc tribe receives a fair trial as he does not want the killing renegade already a hero amongst the tribes to become martyred. As he rides the stage, the brothers McMahon, Jeeter and Harlance, rob the coach at Sunset Gulch. They leave Joshua for dead, but failed to finish the job. He is coming for them as they also stole his two valuables and the Presidential document.

This is as much a fabulous richly textured historical thriller as much as an exhilarating western saga as Don Bendell provides an entertaining late nineteenth century tale of vengeance. Armchair readers will feel they accompany Joshua on the trek to deliver the package. The hero is fully developed as the audience obtains glimpses into his past that enhance the understanding of Strongheart. With a fabulous High Noon confrontation containing an unexpected spin, fans will enjoy this engaging Americana; as Mr. Bendell known for his CID tales shows he can writer a wonderful "tale of the old west".

    Better than Grey or L'Amour

It is history that you can feel and smell like you are in the saddle in 1870. Good and evil and hate and romance, it is all in here, from a simple and violent time. Justice and injustice dispensed on a wild ride across the old west. Plus a bonus of real history. A real good chase with characters you will love or hate. Turn off your computer, TV,
and cell phone and go back. This is by far Bendell's best book.

    Fast moving action!

Strongheart...Great book! This book has it all, historical fiction, adventure and romance on the western frontier. The hero, Joshua Strongheart, sets out on a mission to keep his word and bring justice to the outlaws who stole the widow's antique wedding ring and left him for dead. The author has done his research and knows what he's writing about, the towns were (and most still are) real communities on the frontier, and he brings all the characters to life so well, that by the end of the book, I felt like I'd acually met them all. I highley recommend this book if you like westerns and heroes. Looking forward to the next book in this western series by Don Bendell.
