There are new example sections on higher-order procedures in graphics and on applications of stream processing in numerical programming, and many new exercises.In addition, all the programs have been reworked to run in any Scheme implementation that adheres to the IEEE standard.

Meet the Author

Hal Abelson is Class of 1922 Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a fellow of the IEEE. He is a founding director of Creative Commons, Public Knowledge, and the Free Software Foundation. Additionally, he serves as co-chair for the MIT Council on Educational Technology.

Gerald Jay Sussman is Panasonic Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT. He is the coauthor (with Hal Abelson and Julie Sussman) of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (MIT Press). Sussman and Wisdom are also coauthors of Functional Differential Geometry (MIT Press).

    The Best Reference Resource Thus Far.. however save your money the entire book is available online for free

    After spending $100+ on this textbook I found it, in it's entirety, online.

    Awesome book for CS Introductory...

    Whew! I just got done with the finals in scheme. This book contains a great deal of information. Some of my favorite topics in it include the huffman algorithm, and the streaming. I think I learned a lot from this book and the biggest gain I had was the grasp on recursion. Iteration is awesome because I have done c++ before. Recursion always gave me a nightmare previously. This book introduced us the idea of head, tail, and tree recursion. Once we got deep I got pretty good at recursion. The book taught me how a program gets evaluated using environment diagram. It had a lot of examples and presented students some kewl theorems. I will definitely Keep it next to my bed.
