Smith (Just As I Am) provides all the standard elements of inspirational chick lit in this first installment of the Sister-to-Sister series. Joan has been dumped by her long-term boyfriend, lives at home, has an unexciting job and can't quite figure out what to do with her life, until a single doctor (who is of course terribly good-looking and very serious about his faith) moves in next door. As the title suggests, Joan is the middle daughter and feels dwarfed by her older sister's happy family and her younger sister's beauty and success. She struggles with feeling abandoned by her father and angry that her mother forced him to leave when she was young. She wonders if there's more depth to her faith than she initially thought, and learns more about God from her new doctor friend. And she tries hard to take care of her elderly grandmother to prevent her from being sent to an assisted living home, though that may prove to be the best place for her after all. Naturally, this is the realm of happy endings, and readers won't be disappointed. The sisters are spirited and fun, and if the story takes a while to get going, it soon quickens the pace and entertains. (Feb.)

Not sure if I knew that this was a Christian book when I downloaded it...I remember liking the synapsis. I am a Christian, however, I don't normally read books that have any thing to do with religion. I was surprised that I actually liked this book very much. The story line was very much family oriented and sweet with a little bit of romance thrown in to keep me satisfied. I would definitely recommend this book to any one over the age of 13!!!! Will look forward to more from this author.

I like this book, but can't tell you why. Being a middle child, it is nice to see the middle kid win something, even if it is a man.
It is sweet, romantic & well developed characters. Worth buying & reading. I'll download a few more of her books.

A great book of a girl's search for finding how to balance life and put her trust in God and have a close relationship with Him.Very decent,well-balanced book! I will read it again.

The protagonist was soul searching, God seeking, visiting various churches, listening to sermons, and in my opinion - it got preachy. I am a Christian, but I still found it to be a bit much.

I really enjoyed this book. Simply put........if you don't know God, you need to get to know him. Without God, we are all lost. Keep writing your books.

This is a really good book. I am only a teenager and I love it. It really makes you think about where you are in your relationship with God. It is also very exciting to find out what happens to Joan and Ken. I would read it over and over!

The ONLY bad thing about this book is that it was too short!! I loved the characters and felt like they were my own friends. Funny and contemporary. A nice Christian book that isn't based in the wild west for a change. Nothing about this book was a disappointment, but I wish it went on and on. Will be searching for more from Ms. Smith.

I Loved the family squabbles, and I could relate to them easily because my family fights like that all the time. This is a religion-based book, and was surprised when I found that out. I had guessed that it would be some kind of sappy love story, but it was not, and I loved that about it. There is more to life than romance, and the author portrayed that well. Very well written :]

I thought this book sounded interesting, and I attempted to get into it twice. To no avail. It has too many unneccessary details, is dragged out waaaay too long, and thebmain character is whiny...I can't get past chapter 5.

I'm only ten years old but I am reading this series for the second time. By the third book, you really grow close to the Sanderson sisters and their family. A bit to much relgion in this book, though. Joan is a Christian, and I am too and I ESPECIALLY don't have a problem with religion, but the way Ken talks is a bit uncomfortable for Allie, Joan, and Tori. Nothing extremely innapropriate or messed up. Really, really good book. -Riley
P.S I have the Spelling Bee tomorrow wish me luck

Overview
Joan Sanderson's life is stuck. Her older sister, Allie, is starting a family, and her younger sister, Tori, has a budding career. Meanwhile, Joan is stuck at home with Mom and her aging grandmother. Not exactly a recipe for excitement--or romance.
When a hunky young doctor moves in next door, Joan sets out to catch his eye. But it won't be easy. Pretty Tori flirts relentlessly, and Joan is sure that she can't compete. But with a little help from God, Allie, and an enormous mutt with bad manners, Joan begins to ...
