Overview

Joan Sanderson's life is stuck. Her older sister, Allie, is starting a family and her younger sister, Tori, has a budding career. Meanwhile, Joan is living at home with Mom and looking after her aging grandmother. Not exactly a recipe for excitement. That is, until a hunky young doctor moves in next door. Suddenly Joan has a goal--to get a date. But it won't be easy. Pretty Tori flirts relentlessly with him and Joan is sure that she can't compete. But with a little help from God, Allie, and an enormous mutt with bad manners, maybe Joan can find her way out of this rut.
Book 1 of the Sister-to-Sister series, Stuck in the Middle combines budding romance, spiritual searching, and a healthy dose of sibling rivalry.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Smith (Just As I Am) provides all the standard elements of inspirational chick lit in this first installment of the Sister-to-Sister series. Joan has been dumped by her long-term boyfriend, lives at home, has an unexciting job and can't quite figure out what to do with her life, until a single doctor (who is of course terribly good-looking and very serious about his faith) moves in next door. As the title suggests, Joan is the middle daughter and feels dwarfed by her older sister's happy family and her younger sister's beauty and success. She struggles with feeling abandoned by her father and angry that her mother forced him to leave when she was young. She wonders if there's more depth to her faith than she initially thought, and learns more about God from her new doctor friend. And she tries hard to take care of her elderly grandmother to prevent her from being sent to an assisted living home, though that may prove to be the best place for her after all. Naturally, this is the realm of happy endings, and readers won't be disappointed. The sisters are spirited and fun, and if the story takes a while to get going, it soon quickens the pace and entertains. (Feb.)

Not sure if I knew that this was a Christian book when I downloaded it...I remember liking the synapsis. I am a Christian, however, I don't normally read books that have any thing to do with religion. I was surprised that I actually liked this book very much. The story line was very much family oriented and sweet with a little bit of romance thrown in to keep me satisfied. I would definitely recommend this book to any one over the age of 13!!!! Will look forward to more from this author.

I like this book, but can't tell you why. Being a middle child, it is nice to see the middle kid win something, even if it is a man. It is sweet, romantic & well developed characters. Worth buying & reading. I'll download a few more of her books.

I really enjoyed this book. Simply put........if you don't know God, you need to get to know him. Without God, we are all lost. Keep writing your books.

The ONLY bad thing about this book is that it was too short!! I loved the characters and felt like they were my own friends. Funny and contemporary. A nice Christian book that isn't based in the wild west for a change. Nothing about this book was a disappointment, but I wish it went on and on. Will be searching for more from Ms. Smith.

I Loved the family squabbles, and I could relate to them easily because my family fights like that all the time. This is a religion-based book, and was surprised when I found that out. I had guessed that it would be some kind of sappy love story, but it was not, and I loved that about it. There is more to life than romance, and the author portrayed that well. Very well written :]

I found the book intriguing at first, but then the Christian undertone became the focal point of the plot. The protagonist was soul searching, God seeking, visiting various churches, listening to sermons, and in my opinion - it got preachy. I am a Christian, but I still found it to be a bit much.

I loved this book! It was a great read and kept me wanting more! The characters were so easy to fall in love with and I love that it was about sisters cause I am one of 3!

I thought this was a really life changing book. The plot is very christian based, but I really thought of that as a way the Lord can reach people through stroies and books, not just the bible. I think that Virginia Smith did an amazing job writing this, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is a really good book. I am only a teenager and I love it. It really makes you think about where you are in your relationship with God. It is also very exciting to find out what happens to Joan and Ken. I would read it over and over!

The main character was entirely too childish and her behavior at times was annoying and unbelieveable. I do not recommend this book.

I read this and it had me smiling even when I had to leave it and was done with it. It is amazingly well written and is just a wonderful story. I don't usually read Christain books but this one definite,y made me want to keep.reading and I most certainly willread the sequels. It is a sweet, innocent, good natured book. I immediately fell in love with all the characters. The way she brought religion into this was inspiring. It had romance which is always a plus but ,personally, in romance books i sometimes am just like oh really they arehaving sex again? What a surprise. This is such a good book for anyone. Please never quit writing. You have a rare talent.

This Story is very hard to get into from the beginning and completely loses me mid way through. While I definitely don't mind religion being a part of the story, this author seems to have run out plot and very abruptly makes religion the focus.

Why does she always say 'I can see the headlines....." it's such a cliche and gets very annoying.
