Overview

Many high school athletes dream of playing college sports, which have a wide audience and are often seen as the path to "going pro." College athletic programs are a huge revenue stream for their schools, and thus each year schools spend a lot of time and money promoting their teams and recruiting top high school players. While high school players are dazzled by stories of individual and team triumphs at the college level, the harder truths of transfers, disillusionments, and injuries often go untold.

The Student-Athlete's College Recruitment Guide explores the recruiting process from behind the scenes, giving students and their families insight into the inner workings of college athletics. This in-depth resource examines the many aspects of college athletic recruitment, including what to look for when choosing a program that best fits a student's abilities and needs, both athletically and academically. Expert interviews with top coaches reveal what they believe student athletes need to "make it" in this ultracompetitive realm and how to avoid the common pitfalls that can hinder a student-athlete's performance. This book is a valuable tool for high school students navigating the recruiting process.

    more from this reviewer

Starting the process is now easier!

I learning a lot from this book about the college recruiting process! My child finished her freshman year third in state for lacrosse goal tending. After a camp at Duke University this summer, she is convinced that college lacrosse is in her future. This is exciting yet complicated. This book helped me understand the rules behind college recruiting, the pitfalls, and the process.
