This new practice-oriented workbook includes experiential learning exercises explicitly aligned to the practice behaviors recommended in the Council on Social Work Education?s (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The workbook encourages you to begin developing your skills with social work practice behaviors through case-based exercises, short-answer ethical questions, critical-thinking questions, and role-play exercises in class or as activity assignments to be done outside of class. Each exercise is linked to specific practice behaviors, and each chapter is followed by an assessment rubric to be completed by you, a peer evaluator, or your instructor to foster accountability.
Karen K. Kirst-Ashman has been a full professor and former chairperson of the department of social work at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she has taught for 28 years. She has written six social work textbooks and numerous publications, articles, and reviews on social work and women's issues. Dr. Kirst-Ashman was a board member of the CSWE from 1998 through 2001 and has served as a CSWE accreditation site visitor. Certified as a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Wisconsin, she is a recipient of the Roseman Award for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dr. Kirst-Ashman earned her BSW in 1972, a MSW in 1973 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and PhD in social work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Grafton Hull is a full professor at the University of Utah School of Social Work and former director of the Bachelor of Social Work Program there. He has 36 years of teaching experience at all levels of social work education, and his practice background includes mental health, child welfare, and juvenile justice services. He holds a BS degree from the University of Wisconsin, MSW from Florida State University, and EdD from the University of South Dakota. He is the co-author of seven textbooks and numerous articles in professional journals and books. Dr. Hull has served on the CSWE Board of Directors, Commission on Accreditation, National Nominating Committee, and as a site visitor to several dozen social work programs. He was president and secretary of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (BPD) and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work. He has also been an accreditation consultant to dozens of baccalaureate and master's programs.
