Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This work offers seven very accessible essays on selected objects in the von Kienbusch collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Aimed at a much broader audience than the 1963 catalog of the full collection (Princeton Univ. Lib.), this volume focuses on some of the most outstanding pieces in one of the great 20th-century collections. Some essays read like mysteries or thrillers with a cast of dubious characters. The authors are all recognized curators or authorities, and each has a fresh style and approach. Without attempting an overall thesis, this book is a strong addition to the literature of the field: the study of objects of great beauty and of horrible utility. Highly recommended.-- Jack Perry Brown, Ryerson & Burnham Libs ., Art Inst . of Chicago
