Overview

The animations of Japan’s Studio Ghibli are amongst the highest regarded in the movie industry. Their delightful films rank alongside the most popular non-English language films ever made, with each new eagerly-anticipated release a guaranteed box-office smash. Yet this highly profitable studio has remained fiercely independent, producing a stream of imaginative and individual animations. The studio’s founders, long-time animators Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, have created timeless masterpieces. Although their films are distinctly Japanese their themes are universal—humanity, community, and a love for the environment. No other film studio, animation or otherwise, comes close to matching Ghibli for pure cinematic experience. All their major works are examined here, as well the early output of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, exploring the cultural and thematic threads that bind these films together.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
With countless awards, including a Best Animated Feature Oscar for Spirited Away, Hayao Miyazaki is one of anime's greatest. His Ponyo just debuted to joyful reviews in a star-dubbed English version. British film critics and coauthors of many Kamera books, Odell and Le Blanc (Vampire Films; David Lynch) capture Miyazaki's phenomenal career, intricately linked with that of his creative partner Isao Takahata, and provide an excellent overview of "the most profitable animation company in the world" outside Hollywood. Studio Ghibli, whose unique name is derived from an Italian aircraft used in World War II, was formed in 1985 by Miyazaki, Takahata, and producer Suzuki Toshio as an incubator for uncompromising artistic freedom.

Haku smiled weakly at Chihiro. "I tried to get that stupid gate open so many times, I lost count." he told her. Chihiro cracked a smile. "Me too." she said. "It was pretty frustrating." Haku snorted in amusement. "Chihiro, I almost burnt the blasted thing to the the ground on several occasions!" Chihiro burst out laughing at this, causing Haku to smile. He was pleased that he had gotten her to laugh. Question was, had she forgiven him yet? "Chihiro," he repeated; " I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I abandonded you." Chihiro frowned. "You didn't." She declared, and without another word, scooted closer to Haku and put her head on his shoulder. Haku responded after a moment by putting his arm around Chihiro's shoulders.%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

    Amazing!

This book shows the movies that the members of studio ghibli created. They are all animated films. The creators all all people working there, especilly hayao miyasaki. Most of the movies are made by him. They are movies like whisper of the heart, my neibor totoro, and spiried away. I would reccommend this to anyone who likes anime movies and studio ghibli!
