Study Guide to Clinical Psychiatry is made up of 256 questions divided into 40 individual quizzes of 5-10 questions each that correspond to chapters in The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry, Fourth Edition. Questions are followed by an Answer Guide that references relevant text (including the page number) in the Textbook to allow quick access to needed information. Each answer is accompanied by a discussion that not only addresses the correct response but also explains why other responses are not correct.

The Study Guide's companion, The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry, Fourth Edition, was first published 15 years ago as the only multiauthored, comprehensive textbook in the field. In the fourth edition of this tremendously successful volume, the editors expanded its focus on the neurosciences to encompass the great strides that have been made in the basic and clinical sciences. In compiling this informative and enjoyable compendium, the editors have crafted each chapter as a complete stand-alone entity. With a remarkable 85 contributors—all recognized experts—this comprehensive text is clinically relevant and eminently practical for medical students and residents, psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists and neuropsychologists, and a broad range of professionals who work in many different clinical settings.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: William Miles, MD (Rush University Medical Center)
Description: This softcover book is a companion and study guide to The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry.
Purpose: It is clear that this book is to be used as a study guide and self-assessment tool for readers of the full textbook. These are worthy objectives, and the authors meet them.
Audience: This book is targeted to readers of the textbook, most likely senior residents in psychiatry and clinicians who may be studying for psychiatry boards. The authors are credible authorities (indeed, probably the highest authority) on this subject.
Features: This book is composed of over 250 questions, divided into 40 individual quizzes, which correspond to the chapters in the textbook. The answers include a discussion about not only the correct answers but also why the other answers were incorrect. A particularly nice feature in the answer guide is that the relevant text in the main book is cited by page number. A few references are provided at the end of some chapters, but readers can go to the parent textbook for a complete reference.
Assessment: In my opinion, The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry is the best reference source in all of psychiatry, and this companion and study guide is a welcome addition. Clinicians studying for written boards, or those who simply need to review current concepts in psychiatry, would find this study guide a valuable companion to the parent text.
