Description: This is a question and answer companion to The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. This companion is made up of 39 chapters of questions and answers that mirror the chapters in the textbook.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive quiz, review, and study guide to the main textbook, allowing readers to evaluate their knowledge as they progress through the individual chapters.
Audience: It is targeted at anyone dealing with neuropsychiatry: students, clinicians, researchers, etc.
Features: The main textbook is considered the benchmark in neuropsychiatry and the study guide is a nice companion that complements it. The authors cover all the pertinent areas, starting with the neuron and basic neuroscience and diagnostic tools, progressing through individual disease entities with their neuropsychiatric aspects, and finishing up with the treatment modalities along with the legal, ethical, and certification issues of neuropsychiatry. Each chapter has 5-10 questions in a consistent format. In the answers section, the authors explain the answer and also discuss why the other options were incorrect. A friendly tool is the reference to the chapters in the textbook with the pages where the relevant topic is discussed. As the field of neuropsychiatry has evolved, the study guide encompasses all the newer developments in the field.
Assessment: This quiz/study guide is a nice tool for evaluating one's progress and knowledge. It would be a nice supplement for residents and other students who are in the process of taking board examinations.
