    Very useful resource

I was a stay-at-home mom for several years and worked for a couple of years as an administrative assistant in our local elementary school library. I recently decided to try my hand at substitute teaching, and purchased this book after reading the online reviews. This book is exactly what I was looking for. It is full of extremely helpful, practical advice, and is clearly organized in the chapters, "A to Z." When I recently stepped into the classroom for my first subbing assignment, I felt confident and prepared because of the information I had read in this book. It is a great reference to keep on hand as well, with lots of ideas for on-the-spot learning activities and games, in addition to the tips on organization, discipline, and expectations. I would recommend it to anyone who is considering substitute teaching.

    A reviewer

I have been a sub for 11 years and this is by far the best book that I have ever read on the subject. All subs should be required to read it. I am buying a copy for my daughter who is in college studying to be a teacher.

    One Substitutes Philosophy

Provides insight into the world of substituting and practical advice for a sub's first days teaching as well as a providing a groundwork for managing a long-term assignment. Pressman offers advice and a method of approaching the role of of substituting, but stays well away from teaching theory.
