Children's LiteratureA young boy decides he should go and buy some new socks, seeing how he has been wearing the same pair for three months. However, rather than going straight to the store, he takes the "scenic route, through the swamp." Obviously, the boy soon encounters an alligator that cares more about a snack than the plethora of adverbial descriptions. However, thanks to the delayed purchase of socks, the stench overcomes the alligator, and the boy is free to continue on his journey while adverbially reflecting on the incident. This is a delightful tale with humor and adverbs scattered on every page. In fact, there are 25 different adverbs used, and they all are presented in a green text to set them apart. This is a perfect read for school kids learning what adverbs are and how to use them. In fact, this book teaches kids while they are too busy being entertained to even notice that they are learning. This is a great book and a wonderful read. 2004, Gibbs Smith, Ages 8 to 12.
