Overview

Sugar and spice . . . not everyone's nice.

Fresh from being betrayed by one of her closest friends, new celebrity Jane Roberts has learned a few lessons. Most important: know who to trust. And in Hollywood, that list is short. Determined to get control of her life, Jane swears off boys and all the trouble they bring. But when high school sweetheart Caleb and L.A. crush Braden show up, both acting sweeter than ever, Jane has a hard time remembering her no-boys rule.

And for the first time Jane’s best friend, Scarlett, has only one guy on her mind: her new boyfriend, Liam. But being on a hit reality show means hanging out with other guys on-camera, and Liam isn’t too happy with pretending to play a bit part in her love life.

Just when everything feels out of control, Jane makes a discovery that changes everyone’s definition of “reality” forever. In television star Lauren Conrad’s L.A. Candy series, the drama is pure dishy fun.

    Perfection Until the End

It may not be my favorite of the trilogy, but I could not deny that it was a GREAT book. The ending was only depressing because I REALLY wanted this series to last forever. All in all, it was a great book.

    Awesome book!

I loved this book so much! I have always loved lauren conrad from the beginning of laguna beach until now! She is a great author. I would say since this book is a series it would only make sense to read the first two books then read this one. She is coming out with another book series called the fame game coming in the fall.

    Great Read!!!!!

This book is definitetly the best of all three L.A. Candy novels. All loose ends were tied up, and the characters discover the truth of life, love, and friendship. It really makes you think about a celebrity's life. Thank you, Lauren Conrad for such an intriguging and great read!!!!!!

    Decent Quick Read

I think it's a pretty decent quick read, especially if you've read the other books in the series. It's a great mini series for young females to sit down and read through.

    Disappointing Ending *SPOILERS*

This was the weakest book in the series. The first book was the best and easiest to read. It was actually entertaining. The second book needed to be read because of the first, that's what it had going for it. This third book was really, "how is it going to end?" and after about two chapters it was more like "do I even care anymore?" I really like Lauren and I love that she got to write these books. I would love to write a book someday. I have been a fan of Lauren's for sometime now, but this book really was a disappointment. I hope she continues to write because I think she has potential. I wish this book had been better.

    Spoilers....

I don't understand why she turned an awesome guy in the series into a total jerk. I understand that she wanted Jane to become strong, but I think that was accomplished when she said goodbye to Caleb. Braden was her dream guy and I don't believe he was trying to hook-up with girls, why would he have maintained the relationship with Jane? He hooked up with her once and if he was so good-looking he wouldn't need to keep going back to her. I just didn't believe it. Thought that was the stupidest thing in this book. There were other ways to show Jane growing as a character than that. Jane could have had her happy ending as well.

Reviewed by Hannah Marie for Teens Read Too

Little girls are definitely made of sugar and spice, as author Lauren Conrad proves in the third and final chapter of L.A. CANDY. The drama picks up again with the season two premiere of "L.A. Candy," PopTV's most popular reality show. The show's main stars - Jane, Scarlett, Gaby, and Madison - are forced to smile for the cameras together as if they are best friends. As readers and show viewers understand, though, this is certainly not the case. Instead of trying to make the girls friends, show producer Trevor decides to use their disgust to his advantage to enhance ratings and plots. Jane and her coworker, Hannah, are forced to work with Madison at Fiona Chen Events. After the revealing of Madison's plot to destroy Jane's image in SWEET LITTLE LIES, the last thing Jane wants is to have to cooperate with Madison. Little to Madison's knowledge, though, her past and greediness are about to catch up to her when her blackmailer's identity is discovered. Scarlett is willing to work with PopTV and the show's producers more so than in the past books. She attends photo shoots and agrees to reunite with an old friend from high school, seeing as how her boyfriend, Liam, cannot be filmed. But is she really happy with her life choices and her decision to follow every PopTV command? Lastly, Gaby is always seen as "L.A. Candy's" most naïve and somewhat plain star. However, a new publicist and directions from Trevor unleash a new side of Gaby, much to the shock of her fellow co-stars. As you will find out in SUGAR AND SPICE, sometimes the lack of truth behind reality television can really hurt - and help those who are involved to learn about themselves along the way. The ending of L.A. CANDY is somewhat of a letdown after the amount of drama bursting within the novels, but, at the same time, it goes to show that reality television personalities are real people when all is said and done. I hope that Conrad continues writing, for she offers an intriguing inside glimpse at the lives of reality show participants that is often unseen in fiction.
