It's a prime ingredient in countless substances from cereal to soup, from cola to coffee. Consumed at the rate of one hundred pounds for every American every year, it's as addictive as nicotine — and as poisonous. It's sugar. And "Sugar Blues", inspired by the crusade of Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson, is the classic, bestselling expose that unmasks our generation's greatest medical killer and shows how a revitalizing, sugar-free diet can not only change lives, but quite possibly save them.

I read this book 3 weeks ago and as other have mentioned below, it has changed my life. I have dropped 12 pounds in 4 weeks. When I am hungry I eat, fruits, nuts, vegetables and lean meats. I am not starving myself but I am eating smaller portions. Lots of water and I feel great and am sleeping better. No sugar, no dairy, no processed foods. How easy is that.

Everything that I ever thought about sugar has been well documented in SUGAR BLUES. I recommend this book as a must for anyone interested in nutrition.

I have just finished reading this book this morning, and it has opened my eyes to a whole different perspective about how the historical events, governments, economy, and societies are affected us consumers by the sugar marketing advertising propagandas. I'm currently suffering from ezema and I'm a smoker. After finish reading this book, I want to stop my smoking habit 'cold turkey!' I know in the next couple of months that my skin problem (ezema) would disappear also just by eating any types of foods that are 'sugar-free'. William Dufty is an amazing descriptive author, and I'm so relieved to know where my emotional, and physical problems can stem from - man made refined SUGAR! I know one way to help my problem with the sugar blues is for myself to educate me, my husband, family, and friends about any foods that contain sugar is BAD for you now and in the long run!

Sugar Blues has changed me already, when nothing else could. I've dropped all sweets and have lost 4 things: my craving for sweets, my rls (restless leg syndrome), sore tongue, and weight - slowly. I'll never go back to sugar. His narratives are terrifying - just to know that the Bubonic Plague was linked with sugar was enough to make me finish the book. Now I'm going to give it to several people as gifts.

Have you ever had that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that sugar is bad for you? Did you continue eating sugar as there was no evidance against it?? Read this book and weep. Mourn for the years of submitting your body to the biggest killer in modern history. Cane Sugar.

This book was recommended to me and as an avid reader I found it a total waste of time. Too much rambling. He should have just taken the facts and written a magazine article.
