Overview

The holidays are the icing on the cake for bakery owner Hannah Swensen. Surrounded by her loved ones, she has all the ingredients for a perfect Christmas--until murder is added to the mix. . .

When it comes to holidays, Minnesotans rise to the occasion--and the little town of Lake Eden is baking up a storm with Hannah leading the way. The annual Christmas Buffet is the final test of the recipes Hannah has collected for the Lake Eden Holiday Buffet Cookbook.

The recently divorced Martin Dubinski arrives at the buffet with his new Vegas showgirl wife--all wrapped up in glitter and fur. His ex-wife, however, seems as cool as chilled eggnog. And when Hannah's mother's antique Christmas cake knife disappears, its discovery in the décolletage of the new--and now late--Mrs. Dubinski puts the festivities on ice.

With everyone stranded at the community center by a blizzard, Hannah puts her investigative skills to the test, using the ingredients at hand: half the town of Lake Eden--and a killer. Now, as the snowdrifts get higher, it's up to Hannah to dig out all the clues--and make sure that this white Christmas doesn't bring any more deadly tidings. . .

These books are fun reads. After going through all of the Harry Bosch series, I find the lightness refreshing - even if a murderis involved - and the recipes have managed to keep me busy on the weekends trying them!!!

Very short story. Too much consumed by recipes.

I loved this book. The fact that everyone was at the Christmas party and snowed in made it more interesting. It also made it harder to search for clues without everyone knowing what was going on. Mike's behavior, I thought, was rude. He pretty much locked himself in that room and refused to listen to Hanna and the others. Tracey's letter to Santa was interesting too. Great book.

Tad predictable but still fun and some good recipes - more of a cookbook then mystery.

Joanne Fluke serves up comfort food with her Hannah Swensen series. Hannah loves - & is frustrated by - her sisters and mother. She also have a very "G rated" romance going on. Then there are all the residents of the little Minnesota town she lives in. As a Southern Californian, I am fascinted by the details such as having to plug your car battery in so it won't freeze overnight in the winter! And every book has several great cookie recipes. Only this one has almost a whole cookbook full of recipes for main dishes, salads, sides and desserts. Oh yes, almost forgot- each book contains a mystery that Hannah solves. The mysteries are interesting, but nobody buys these books for the mysteries. I love this series- cute without being too cute.

It was good but the end was anticlimactic. Usually Hannah is in danger of being killed herself by the killer when she figures out who the killer is and the killer finds out she has pieced it together but not so with this one. It ended very tidy and she wasn't in danger.
