Overview

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch as we've never seen him before, in three never-before-collected stories.

In "Suicide Run," the apparent suicide of a beautiful young starlet turns out to be much more sinister than it seems. In "Cielo Azul," Bosch is haunted by a long-ago closed case -- the murder of a teenage girl who was never identified. As her killer sits on death row, Bosch tries one last time to get the answers he has sought for years. In "One Dollar Jackpot," Bosch works the murder of a professional poker player whose skills have made her more than one enemy.

Whether investigating a cold case or fresh blood, Bosch relentlessly pursues his quarry, always on the lookout for the "tell." In this first collection of Harry Bosch stories, Michael Connelly once again demonstrates that he is the master of "fast-paced, brilliantly plotted crime fiction.... Harry Bosch is back on the case, and not a moment too soon" (Chicago Sun Times).

Three stories in just 92 pages? This was a complete rip off. It was passed off as three Harry Bosch stories. The phrase 'short stories' did not appear in the overview or anywhere else. Before I ordered I even sent an email to B&N and asked if this was the full price for the ebook given that it was three stories and the Harry Bosch series are usually a lot more money for three in one. In other words, it seemed too good to be true. Their response did not in any way imply that these were short stories either. I want my money back. I hope I have time to cancel the other one I ordered - Angle of Investigation.

I am a big Harry Bosch Fan and I am very disappointed that I pre ordered a book for $3.00 and received 92 pages...and the kicker is there is really only 84 pages of story as the other pages are trash! Please do not build up something that does not exist. This is not a book anyone should look forward to reading I am sorry I wasted the money!

I am a great fan of Michael Connelly, having read pretty much everything he's ever written, and I regard him as a highly talented writer. I was very dissapointed to find that Suicide Run is nothing more than three poorly written, incomplete, badly paced Harry Bosch short stories that seem to be little more than some re-cylced notes and outtakes from previous novels. Connelly is a best-selling author with major movie credits, why on earth is he besmirching his well earned rep by putting out junk like this? I am on pre-order for his next book, The Drop, I am now considering "dropping it."

It took 2-3 days for the book to download to my Nook and then it is only 92 pages. I think that stinks since I enjoy the series and this book is several stories and all about the author. I have not read it yet so can't give a review but believe that I have paid more for this book of 92 pages than I did for Black Ice which was great and considerably longer. I don't want to pay to read about the author and his books - i can get that from his website free and have already. This book is definitely not what I expected so hopefully the short stories will be worth the short time it takes to read!

I agree with my fellow Harry Bosch fans. What a rip-off!

The first two of these three stories read more like thumbnail sketches for a full book than like actual short stories. There's a great deal of flat-out "telling" who the characters are, rather than allowing dialogue or behavior to reveal them. Even some of the dialogue is a little awkward because it's really just another form of exposition. Also there are some little actions or dialogue that seem as though they are going to lead somewhere but don't further the plot and never show up again-- for instance, the detectives are called to a scene, get there late because they were called late; nothing ever happens as a result of that information. In the limited space of a short story, why throw that in? The second story recounts an old crime; the interview with the convicted killer leads to no new plot information and no new character development, so what's the point? Harry starts out frustrated and ends the same way. The third story is a little better; a good mystery plot but an outcome you could spot a mile away. Again, too much "telling," not enough "showing." I love the Harry Bosch novels but felt cheated by these thumbnail outlines masquerading as short stories.

I decided to test the waters after spending the $2.99 on "Three Short Stories". I thought I might as well read them. NOT GOOD! DON'T WASTE TIME OR MONEY ON IT! Surprised B&N has involved themselves with dishonest marketing. Michael Connelly may be a good author but I am also surprised he has allowed his name to be added to what appears to be a real rip off. Even if it is a small amount of money it would have been better spent on something else. These are all excerpts ... nothing "short story" about them. It will only make me more cautious about B&N and Author/Publisher reviews in the future.

3 very stupid stories--no real beginning or end. The only one with a beginning turns out to be an excerpt from his next book. SO the way I look at it is your are paying for nothing--but an ad for his next book. What a rip off.

All the "stories" were good but too short. I could not download it till I contacted B & N and spent more time trying to get the book than it took to read the book! Very frustrating experience. It just left me wanting for more.

I believe Michael Connelly to be the best, murder mystery writer extent. No exceptions. Harry Bosch is a really living character with flaws, 'warts and all", unhidden by the author. I have read every word so far in print by Michael Connelly and I am waiting with bated breath for his next release in November 2012. All of his other characters are as well developed and worthy. By the way, readers, there is another 3 story Harry Bosch book out there too. New author alert!!! Robert Dugoni. Start with his non fiction, "The Cyanide Canary", and there are 6, fiction, murder mystery, lawyer based, books so far. WORTHY!
