Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 8-12-- Another title in the publisher's extensive series. Beilenson begins with the first moments of Indonesia's declaration of independence and then flashes back to its earlier political history. Great detail is given to Indonesia's political struggle and to how Sukarno became involved as a charismatic leader. His personal life is briefly touched upon. A chronology of important dates is helpful. Numerous black-and-white photos are scattered throughout, adding a visual historical record. Unfortunately, an uneven writing style makes the text difficult to follow. Because this area is so often overlooked in books for young people, the book may provide some information for reports. --Sharon L. Godfrey, Whisconier Middle School, Brookfield Center, CT
