Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Leona Illig
Suki is an outgoing, energetic rabbit who loves to play games with her family and friends. Unfortunately, Suki also likes to be the center of attention, as well as the heroine of all her adventures. Enter the new rabbit on the block: Mirabella, Suki's cousin. Mirabella does not like to play games that might get her beautiful coat dirty, and she certainly does not like doing everything that Suki tells her to. A friendly rivalry develops between the two rabbits, and ends in a contest of skill that teaches both of them the value of cooperating, playing together nicely, and turning a stalemate into a win-win situation. There is just enough humor and sarcasm to counter the inherent sweetness of this tale, and both boys and girls should enjoy it. The illustrations are pleasant and large, since this is a big book designed for young hands. Not everything in the plot is completely explained by the text and illustrations, but creative minds will be able to fill in the gaps; and, in fact, this should give parents and children a chance to discuss the story together. Some of the grammar choices are odd, but there is nothing in the text that should confuse young readers. This is the second book about Suki, the first one being Suki the Very LOUD Bunny. PreS-Gr 1—Suki, a bossy gray and white rabbit, is used to being the leader when it comes to playing games with her brothers and sisters. She meets her match when cousin Mirabella visits for the summer. Suki's siblings, who are tired of her domineering ways, are anxious to play with the newcomer, who refreshingly asks what they would like to do instead of dictating the group's agenda. A fierce competition ensues as the two rivals attempt to outshine one another. When one of their antics culminates in their becoming tangled in a hedge, the two realize they must work together to get free of the thicket. The large, clear, and colorful illustrations, created with charcoal pencils and custom digital charcoal tools, will appeal to young children. A gentle lesson on cooperation and playing well with others.—Maryann H. Owen, Children's Literature Specialist, Mt. Pleasant, WI
