Children's Literature - Donna FreedmanHalf a dozen nicely told folk tales are found in Caduto's book, which is for skilled readers or for kids whose parents like to read to them. This isn't a picture book; the illustrations are a handful of black-and-white drawings. The stories harken back to the days when folk/fairy tales contained important life-lessons such as "Listen to your parents" or "Appearances aren't everything." The author explains this both in the introduction and an afterword. Disregard the slightly hideous elf on the book jacket. This is a fine piece of storytelling.
