Overview

A single visit to Mustang Ridge can change a person’s life in the most unexpected ways....

Recovering from a difficult divorce and having problems with her daughter, Shelby accepts a summer job cooking at a family-run dude ranch. She hopes the animals will be just what her daughter, Lizzie, needs. Little does she know that ranch life will work some healing magic on her too.

When Shelby meets the head wrangler, Foster, she is put off by his brusque nature, but Lizzie takes an instant liking to the cowboy and his horses. While both Foster and Shelby have been scarred by love, it’s not long before Shelby is drawn to the rugged cowboy and his thoughtful ways.

But with summer nights in short supply and Foster wary of falling for a city girl, a simple summer romance soon grows complicated. As the days dwindle, Shelby will have to decide not only what is best for her daughter, but also where her future—and her happiness—will be found.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Boston single mom Shelby and her nine-year old daughter, Lizzie, needed a change of scenery, and a dude ranch in Wyoming is as different as it gets. Little did Shelby realize that when she became Mustang Ridge’s summertime cook’s assistant, she also joined the ranch family. The owner and staff collectively embrace Shelby and shower Lizzie with love and attention. Estranged from her own family and bitterly divorced, Shelby is not used to people being nice to her. Ranch life, with beautiful horses, tasty food, and loving companionship, is good for troubled Lizzie, and Shelby finally decides to do something kind for herself by dating head horse wrangler Foster. The Wyoming backdrop is beautiful, watching a foal being born is miraculous, ranch life sounds like a lot of fun, and Foster and Shelby are sweet and tender with each other, but this contemporary Western is slow, meandering, and missing that crucial spark. Agent: Deidre Knight of the Knight Agency. (June)

I stayed up all night reading this book! Jesse Hayworth is laugh-out-loud hilarious, very witty, and brings her characters to life with their love of junk food and Star Trek! I cried with Shelby and Lizzie as they battled through Lizzie's SM and I fell in love with Foster just as Shelby did. I recommend this book to everyone! There is so much love and family in this book and I can't wait for the next one!

I seldom write reviews, but when I do, it’s because the book has earned that extra time from me and SUMMER AT MUSTANG RIDGE is worth it. This is a beautiful love story not just between Shelby and Foster, but between mother and daughter. I laughed, I sympathized, I cried – yes, even though I knew a HEA was coming, Jesse Hayworth managed to pull me so deep into the story that I cried when it seemed all was over for Shelby and Forest. Yet it was so much more. I smiled over the friendship and sisterhood between Shelby and Krista with their midnight sundaes. Laughed at Gran and her obsession with ‘Herman’ and sympathized with the crazy family dynamics. SUMMER AT MUSTANG RIDGE will touch your heart, break it a little and then put it back together in the end. A must read for any romance lover. Looking forward to WINTER AT MUSTANG RIDGE!

While having never heard of Jesse Hayworth before seeing a reader talk about this novel on Jill Shalvis' FaceBook page, I ordered SUMMER AT MUSTANG RIDGE. I was so glad that I took the chance! It is a wonderful story with heart and romance. So worth the effort. I look forward to more stories from Jesse Hayworth in the future.

I really, really liked -- no, I loved this book. Jesse Hayworth is a new author for me and to be honest, I couldn't put Summer at Mustang Ridge down. I loved Shelby and Lizzie; they made me cry. I loved Foster and Shelby; they made me laugh. Lizzie, Shelby's 9 year old daughter has Selective Mutism -- she can talk, but doesn't. I really don't understand this disorder, so I won't say anything more. Shelby has come to Mustang Ridge to work the summer as a cook and with the hope that Stace a therapist in training can help Lizzie. But Lizzie takes a liking to the trail boss, Foster and he takes a liking to Lizzie and her mother. If you like books that make you laugh; make you cry (not sob your eyes out crying, but misty eye crying) with a fun romance thrown in; this is your book. Foster and Shelby are a fun couple; they both love junk food and "get" each other's sense of humor and whimsy. I will definitely be reading more books by Jesse Hayworth.

Summer at Mustang Ridge by Jesse Hayworth is the first book in her Mustang Ridge series. There actually is a novella released last month that opened this series. The Mustang Ridge series is Contemporary Romance, and I totally fell in love with the characters at Mustang Ridge. Summer at Mustang Ridge heroes are Shelby and Foster. We meet Shelby immediately as she is driving with her daughter heading for Mustang Ridge Ranch for the summer. She is going to work as a chef; but mostly Shelby is using this trip in hope that the animals on the ranch will be just the thing to help her daughter, Lizzie, overcome her issues of not communicating. Foster is the head man with the horses, not to mention a hunk. But Foster is not interested in any kind of releationship, even with the ladies fawning over him. When he meets Shelby, especially after seeing Lizzie with her, he feels some attraction. In a short period, both Shelby and Foster will become an item, but both having had bad experiences previously, agree this is just a summer fling. Though the romance is a big part of this story, and it is a very nice romance, with two couples you love, and want them to end up together; but there are other stories that make this book a step above most romance books. There is no mystery or suspense here; just simply a book that is a joy to read. Lizzie’s problem, which everyone at Mustang Ridge, tries to help, is a major part of the story. Then we meet some of the characters at Mustang Ridge that I totally adored. Hayworth does a wonderful job creating realistic and great characters. I loved Gran, who does all the cooking and Shelby works with her. The granddaughter, Krista, who helps run the ranch, was another wonderful character. Then we had a couple of ranch hands, such as Stace, who worked with Foster to help Lizzie. Shelby was a wonderful heroine, working hard and almost becoming a member of the family, as well as her love for her daughter, and her reactions for each step she takes. She finds herself falling for Foster, even though they promised no strings attached. I loved Foster, as he was a great hero, who showed so much compassion for Lizzie, and was so hot with Shelby. It was great to see their relationship grow, and sad when the obstacles were in the way. I will not give any spoilers, just say that this was a wonderful book to read. I did not want this to end. I am happy that Jesse Hayworth will continue this series with some of the characters we have met and learned to love at Mustang Ridge. If you are looking for a fun, and wonderful romance, look no further then Summer at Mustang Ridge.

This is Book One of another new series and I loved it... A Dude Ranch has been converted from a working ranch and Shelby is the new assistant cook... A divorcee with a small daughter who has been rendered speechless she hopes the change in the environment away from Boston will give her daughter back her voice... Wonderful supporting cast of characters, beautiful scenery, funny and clever story and great romance... Second Book is Winter at Mustang Ridge and that too is a Winner!! PLEASE read this series in order because the story lines follow each other and both of the first books are great reads...
