Summer of Madness

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tim Whitney
Sixteen-year-old Karen Stewartson has always been able to keep her emotions in check. Her rational approach is especially useful this summer, when her mother is away and Karen must take on extra responsibilities at the ranch. But events force Karen to face her emotional side. Someone is poisoning the livestock on the ranches in the area, and Karen discovers that the cow that she has raised from a calf is among the dead. Before he leaves for college, her close friend, Kevin, and she begin to get even closer. The plot is somewhat predictable, but the action-filled ending and the unique setting in the Caribou region of British Columbia make this book an interesting read. Karen's viewpoint as she relates the story will appeal especially to young adult females with an appreciation for rural life.
