It's summertime and a mob-style murder followed by a string of unexplained deaths suggests someone is giving new meaning to the phrase "tourist season."

It is late June in Michigan's gold coast vacation area. The summer residents are settling in for the season and the tourists are beginning to flood the highways, beaches, and resorts. But the idyllic vision of a summer by the lake is suddenly shattered by a gangland-style slaying of one of the old money cottagers. This murder is quickly followed by the deaths of three more summer residents, each taking place under suspicious circumstances.

At times hindered by local politics and the proverbial tension between the summer people and the natives, Sheriff Ray Elkins searches for the possible links between the four victims. As he probes into their tangled lives and dark histories, he finds both the motive and the possible murderer.

Characters are dull and the dialog is flat. Save your money. This one is the pits.

Compelling read; very relevant commentary on the relationship between year-long residents and the tourists that support the area. Wonderful setting descriptions of the lakes area of northern Michigan. A must read for anyone who lives or visits 'up north.'

Barely made it through this drawn out story in desperate need of an injection of suspense. A real yawner. Recommended to me by a friend of the author, a fellow Michigan resident.

Aaron Stander does an admirable job examining the relationships between townies and Summer vacationers in this unique and engaging story. He creates a sympathetic character and supportive cast. This reader finished with hopeful anticipation of a next story.

SUMMER PEOPLE is a well plotted, intriguing mystery where murder and mayhem prevail among the Gold Coast of Michigan's yuppie summer residents. The setting is a vacation in itself while the characterizations are so real one might consider them friends. An entirely entertaining read.
