Meet the Author

I've been a bookworm since I was five years old. The first book I ever read was about a boy going shopping with his mum. I picked it up from my brother's bedroom floor and suddenly those strange shapes on the page made sense. I could read! Hallelujah! I was soon working my way steadily through the school library and it wasn't long before I realised that stories about dragons, elves and great big talking lions were by far the most interesting. And that was it, my obsession with fantasy fiction was born. Hence, my blog about fantasy writing, both my own and others (with a healthy dose of humour and worldly observation thrown in.)I wrote and published my first book when I was seven. This was a rip-roaring adventure tale called “The Golden Pheasant,” about, well, a golden pheasant. I wrote out three copies on bits of paper pulled from my school books, bound them in covers made from old cereal boxes, and gave them out to my teachers. And that’s it. I was a writer! When I’m not writing I enjoy playing tennis (badly), playing the guitar (very badly) and watching cricket whenever I can. I’m also intent on cramming as much world travel as I can into one lifetime. Funny, but my list keeps getting longer. You can never see it all can you?Likes:Favourite TV programme: MerlinFavourite music: Green Day, 30 Seconds To Mars, Staind, REM, Tori AmosFavourite authors: Tolkien, Stephen Donaldson, Steven Erikson, George RR. Martin, Robin Hobb, Angie Sage, Michelle Paver, JV Jones, Terry PratchettFavourite films: The Untouchables, The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, The Lord of The Rings, Con AirDislikes:Being cold, getting up in the morning, two-faced people, spiders, boiled carrots

This story grabs you and entices you to stay for a minute like a cozy old blanket. It is beautifully written and the characters and their plights jump from the page. BUT it ends. Just ends. Remember that old break up you had when you thought everything was great and suddenly the opposite party decided to call it quits with no reason? Yep. Just like that. Horrible story. Even if the end is less than desirable there is still supposed to be an end. Uuggh soo frustrating.

I was completely caught up in the story and it just stopped.  What a let down and left feeling that I just missed the whole point of the story.

Book exchanged for an honest review:Falen is young woman that loves everything to do with science much to her father's dismay. Falen is a princess of Variss. Falen rescues a man from the river but never expected what happened next. The stranger named Nashir seems to be an honest fellow and genuinely interested in what Falen does. Falen's father King Beorl Godwinsson doesn't understand why Falen doesn't like to do womanly things like flower arranging and sewing. Things have been particularly difficult since Falen's mother Queen Anna's passing four years ago. Falen may look like her mother but certainly doesn't act like her. Falen hopes to be accepted to Ral Toran Engineering Academy based on her experiments. A significant change occurs within The King yet Falen is worried all the same. Who is Nashir really? What other changes are happening with the King? Will Falen be accepted? Your answers await you in Summer Storm. A very enjoyable read that was fast paced. This book is what I call a page turner because you have to know what happens next. I also thought this is a great beginning to a series. I completely understood Falen's frustration at not being heard by her father. I found that it was refreshing to see how well the characters drove the story to it's fast paced ending. I will definitely look for more of this author's work.
