Children's LiteraturePart of the "Science Works" series, this fact filled book teaches readers about the sun and the moon, the sun and moon's relationship to the Earth, and the effect they both have on all our everyday activities. Children will learn that the Earth is constantly spinning as it travels around the sun and that the moon only shines because the sun's light is being reflected off of it. Readers will also learn that the sun is a gigantic mix of incredibly hot gases and is more than one hundred times bigger than the Earth. The cartoon-like illustrations try to inject humor with their thought bubble asides and the pictures help explain a lot of the ideas expressed. An activity is also included at the back of the book on how to make your own sundial. Fact Hound, a web site mentioned on the final page, refers readers who are interested in learning more to additional web sites related to teaching about the sun and the moon. 2004 (orig. 2003), Picture Window Books, Ages 9 to 12.
