Sunburst: The Ascent of Sun Microsystems

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Written by two Sun employees, this book is an interesting history of one of Silicon Valley's fastest-growing companies. The purpose of the work ``is to identify and explain the distinct characteristics of Sun and how they propelled the company to become the fastest-growing direct sales company in the history of capitalism.'' Indeed it is; in its fifth year, Sun reached Fortune 500 status; in its sixth, revenues exceeded $1 billion. Like West of Eden ( LJ 4/1/90), Frank Rose's history of Apple computers, this is a detailed account of the founding and early years of an exciting company. As a side benefit, the book also presents a good historical overview of the UNIX operating system. Highly recommended for all libraries.-- Michael D. Kathman, St. John's Univ., Collegeville, Minn.
