Remember when music excited you? You would rush home with the latest release from this special band. You could barely wait to hear it. You’d go to every show they played in your town, no exceptions. Their next release couldn’t come out soon enough. Visqueen makes that kind of music and “Sunset On Dateland” is their latest release. Rachel Flotard drips honesty. She writes cliché free songs of relationships gone good and bad and sings them with a sincere, truthful and beautiful voice. Her guitar sound is tough and fuzzed out and provides an amped up foundation for every song. Ben Hooker plays drums and is a constant presence but never gets in the way. Kim Warnick sings and plays the bass like the pro she is and has been for almost her entire life. Visqueen is about relating stories, stories that are wrapped in a Les Paul’s distortion, accented by a solid bass player, and beaten to by a frenetic drummer. “Blue” and “Manhattan” stand out as perfect power pop masterpieces, and “A Viewing” and “Beauty Deluxe” are excellently crafted full rocked out blasts. All the songs are smart, cleverly arranged, and presented with real power and punch. You owe it to yourself to grab a copy of this cd. If you like power-pop, or just good guitar driven rock performed with honesty and sincerity, “Sunset On Dateland” was recorded specifically for you.Was this review helpful?
