I've read this book several times and need to buy it again, because my other copy wore out. This is out of print and not available at my library or as an ebook.

This is the true story of Jacquelyn Helton(Kate) who died in 1971 of bone cancer and leaves a voice recorded diary for her young daughter Jill. Excellent story.
