Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Third grader Marvin is in big trouble when a rumor begins circulating that he will ride his new bike down Suicide Hill. His classmates and older students all plan to witness the big event. The trouble is that Marvin doesn't know how his new bike works and he is terrified of the notorious Suicide Hill. When Marvin lets on that he may not be up to the challenge, kids start calling him "chicken." This humorous and wise story about Marvin's dilemma is well-written and entertaining. Kids will easily identify with Marvin and see him through to the plot's winning conclusion. The text and characters ring true in this book, which is the latest title in the publisher's "Marvin Redpost" series. 2000, Random House, and $3.99. Ages 5 to 9. Reviewer: Jeanne K. Pettenati

    Marvin's Downhill Adventure

Marvin is a nine year old boy who just got a new mountain bike. Now his friends think he's going to ride down Suicide Hill! What is Marvin going to do? The best part of the book was the most exciting, splendid, happy, amazing, proud, spectacular ride ever.

    Holes

Holes was an awesome book! I loved it, and could not put it down. There was something to leave you hanging at the end of each chapter. It was a different plot and unpredictable. Read Holes if you want to be cliff-hung to death!
