Fly Guy is Buzz's pet fly with a personality and charm that only a fly could have. He goes to school with Buzz and participates in classroom activities. Fly Guy's favorite place is the lunchroom with its soiled dishes, smelly mop, and best all, the luscious contents of the trash cans. He quickly becomes the favorite of Roz the lunchroom lady, who feeds him all the scraps that a fly could love. Unfortunately, Roz's boss fires her. because there should be no flies in the lunchroom, and he hires Miss Muzzle, a talentless cook whose burnt cuisine has everyone deeply missing Roz, even the boss. Buzz concocts a plan with Fly Guy. The next day at school, Fly Guy activates the plan by running into Miss Muzzle's nose which sends her in an outrage. Wildly, she swings her fly swatter to eliminate Fly Guy. Instead, she creates a mess of the lunchroom and is promptly fired. Roz is hired back and she richly thanks her friend with a meal that only he could love, garbage soup! The comical expressions of the large, round-eyed characters let the reader pick up the moods in this fast paced, brightly colorful story with a sparkly cover. 2006, Scholastic Inc, Ages 6 to 8.

K-Gr 2-In this easy chapter book, Buzz's pet fly attends school with him. When the lunch lady allows the insect to live in the lunchroom, she is fired. Fly Guy is subsequently banned from the room by her replacement, who is a terrible cook. Finally, Buzz comes up with a plan, Roz is reinstated, and Fly Guy gets to stay in the lunchroom. The writing is fast paced, the plot is interesting, and many of the humorous and mildly "gross" details will appeal to children. The cartoon illustrations are funny and action-packed and the layout is appropriate for beginning readers, with one or two sentences per page. The text has suitable repetitive phrases to aid the developing fluency of students beginning to read independently. The busy, buzzy beastie introduced in Hi! Fly Guy (2005) accompanies his best bud Buzz to school, and enters fly heaven. Which is to say, he discovers the lunchroom run by the esteemed Roz, a fine cook who isn't above rewarding a bug who can say her name with a delicious cup of chicken bones and fish heads in sour milk. But when Roz is fired in favor of Miss Muzzle-whose idea of a nourishing lunch is burnt peas and turnips-it's up to the resourceful Fly Guy to return the favor. Arnold's pop-eyed, big-headed cartoon figures provide the proper comedic air for this brief episode, which is arranged in chapters and wrapped in an eye-catching, glittery cover. Fledgling readers will cheer the intrepid insect on as he engineers Roz's return, and is last seen basking in a redolent bowl of garbage soup. Keep on buzzing, Fly Guy. (Easy reader. 6-8)

    Another winner for Fly Guy humor

    Reading to your beginners will have them joining in as Fly Guy and Buzz develop their plan to bring ROZZ back and rid the school of Mz. Muzz...
    Great books for your young boys; appropriate yucky stuff included.

    My five year old loved this book!

    I read this book to my son before bedtime. He found it to be very humorous and loved all of the pictures.

    GREAT EARLY CHAPTER BOOK!

    Great beginning reader - especially for those kids that want are not ready for a longer chapter book. My sons thought the book was hysterical!

    Love This Book!!!!!!

    My son being that he is a beginner reader, read this book and loved it. I loved hearing him read it. This is a great book for beginner readers and the illustration that goes along with the writing is great!
