Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathy Leggett
Pets with super powers and super personalities take on the world. Super Hero Splash Down is a comic book in story format from the "DC Super-Pets!" series. A friendly day at the water park soon turns frenzied as Bdg and Dex-Starr find themselves in a splashing match that erupts into a space chase. The Sinestro Dogs and the Orange Lanterns happen into the foray and soon fur is flying all around the water park. An ARF, ARF, and a KA-BLAMO send the characters flying across the pages with a BZZZZT and a YOINK. The sound effects, action and dialogue jump right off the page toward the reader encouraging an instant read aloud connection. This series of six books from the makers of DC Comics pulls together the interest of reading a comic book with the appeal of super heroes and merges those factors into an easy reading early chapter book with less than 50 pages. Each owned by a super hero or villain, the super pets in each book have unique powers that make each pet capable of extraordinary behaviors. The end pages depict the characters telling jokes, detail the word power used in the story with a quick definition, and highlight each character's special powers. The fun does not stop when the book is over, because readers are encouraged to visit a website to find games, videos and contests to acquire more scoop about the super pets. A high interest, easy read that will appeal to both boys and girls alike. Sure to become a fast favorite in classroom and home libraries alike. A fun read. Reviewer: Kathy Leggett

Meet the Author

Jane Mason is no super hero, but having three kids sometimes makes her wish she had superpowers. Jane has written children’s books for more than fifteen years and hopes to continue doing so for fifty more. She makes her home in Oakland, California, with her husband, three children, their dog, and a gecko. Her boys are begging for a pet cheetah, but Jane is holding firm.

Born in Chicago, Art Baltazar found his way early to comic book art and has been cartooning ever since he can recall. With a frenetic, hip hop style, Baltazar began self-publishing in 1994 with such titles as The Cray-Baby Adventures, Gyro-Man, Captain Camel & the Space Chicken, Jimmy Dydo, Lunar Lizard, Meteor Mite and the famous Patrick the Wolf Boy. Art has also drawn coloring books for Warner Bros. Art recently finished work on SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES, and is now co-writing the new series THE GREEN TEAM: TEEN TRILLIONAIRES. Art lives outside of Chicago with his wife, Rose, and children Sonny, Gordon, and Audrey.
