Overview

Play hide and seek on a piece of paper! The words hide, as jumbled letters in a grid, and you seek, by looking at the finished words in lists below. It's just a matter of noticing the finished words hidden in the grid by hunting them down, and up, and backwards, and diagonally. Once you spy the hidden words, you can circle them, then find phrases made by the words. All 56 puzzles demand great detective work, and each rewards you with a different secret message. The messages feature movie stars and magic tricks, sports teams and Pokemon, hidden treasure and McDonald's. To keep you in suspense, some words are hidden in rebus puzzles, mazes, and picture grids, from a mailbox to Snoopy's doghouse. Hardest of all to solve are three "Guess the Theme" puzzles where the word list is missing and you've got to figure out what's on it.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Leave it to Mensa to come up with the word search book about steroids. A very friendly introduction welcomes the reader and explains how the puzzles work. A small diagram of one of the grids is shown with samples of all possible solutions. The point is made that there are eight ways a word can be hidden, and each puzzle uses all eight. Each puzzle is 11 letters across and 15 letters down. A word list, helpful for checking off the words found, is below the letter grid. Some of the puzzles include symbols or numbers instead of letters, as in a box for the Boxing Match puzzle, with such words as sandbox and chatterbox. And to top it all off, there is a message in the letter that is left on the grid after all of the words are selected. Five of the puzzles don't reveal the theme and only the first letter of the hidden words is provided. These are a real challenge. This type of puzzles helps develop proficiency in careful observation, reading and spelling, and these are especially fun. Information about MENSA and solutions to the puzzles are at the end of the book. 2001, Sterling,
