Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
After a mind-boggling journey through death, time travel, and rebirth, Superboy is back in Smallville to reflect upon his past and start anew. Does he follow the road of the good side of his DNA (Superman) or the bad (Lex Luthor)? These are the complex questions that a teen superhero must face. His journey is less about action and more about coming of age and developing friendships. His bond with Tim Drake (aka Red Robin) is tested when both he and Wonder Girl reveal what went on while Superboy was presumed dead. Manapul's artwork reflects Superboy's flip-flopping between good and evil with ease and acts as the perfect vehicle for delivering Johns's emotional script.Verdict Johns and Manapul manage to combine a compelling story with eye-meltingly gorgeous imagery to create something of a mini-masterpiece. Aimed straight at the hearts of teens coming into their own, this title also has enough grit to pull in readers of other ages. Highly recommended.—Justin Hoenke, Portland P.L., ME

    Extremely Good

I don't much care for Superman, but I really enjoy Superboy. He's not the invincible, he isn't sure of himself, and he just seems more human. Now we know why. He's a clone with DNA from both Superman and Lex Luthor. This book deals with him trying to figure out which one he is more like. It comes to a head when Luthor shows up. Featuring Krypto, Superman, Brainiac, Tim Drake and Wonder Girl.

    more from this reviewer

    A fun reintroduction to Superboy!

If you can get by the convoluted premise of Superboy's crazy history, this book is really good. The plot by Geoff Johns is low key and he gives Conner a great voice and personality. It is reminiscent of Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man. The connection to the Luthor family is very interesting and I look forward to seeing where that goes. Francis Manapul's art was amazing. It has a softness and an edge at the same time. Its spectacular! Overall, this is a book that you should definitely check out!
