Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sheilah Egan
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created the original Superman character and started the lengthy history of this comic book legend. Superman seems to have captured the imaginations of many people throughout the last seventy-five years. This superhero has appeared in many different types of media, including comic books, TV, movies, and board books. One could wonder about the board book format but it will give longevity for early readers who are fans of “The Man of Steel.” The text is simple and shown in a large font. Titano, the ape, seems to have stolen some bananas and Superman promises to “…catch that ape” and “…find your fruit.” Using his x-ray vision, he determines that Titano has not hidden them in a tree. He follows the ape and admonishes him to “Tell the truth?” The ape “bounces” up a tall building where Superman corners him on the roof. Pounding on his chest in anger, makes Titano belch in a gigantic “BURRRRP!” Superman remarks, “You see? Letting out the truth always makes you feel better.” The brightly colored cartoons will seem familiar to fans. Reviewer: Sheilah Egan; Ages 2 to 4.
