Supervision for Today's Schools adheres to the belief that supervisors should look at teaching before looking at the teacher, focusing on generic instructional skills that can be learned and improved.

The text introduces the reader to threee domains of supervision: instructional development, curriculum development, and staff development. This text, which has found wide acceptance among trainers of supervisors and practitioners in its previous editions, reflects positions held by many, perhaps the majority of, practicing supervision specialists. The textbook reflects the status of instructional supervision as it currently functions in school systems throughout the country and as it is practiced by many dedicated, experienced individuals at local school, district, and state levels.

Meet the Author

PETER F. OLIVA is retired from professor and chairperson positions at Florida International University and Georgia Southern University. He has been on the faculty at the University of Mississippi, the University of Florida, Indiana State University, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Hawaii. He has published numerous articles in loading educational journals and has authored several textbooks in the field of supervision and curriculum, including Developing the Curriculum. GEORGE E. PAWLAS is associate professor of education in the Educational Leadership program at the University of Central Florida. He has made presentations at national conferences and has authored many articles in education journals and chapters in textbooks. He is also author of The Administrator’s Guide to School-Community Relations.
