I love this book! I was hesitant about it because the author's previous book "Image Transfer Workshop" is, in my humble opinion, one of the best books I've invested in (and I invest a lot in books!) and I wasn't sure that a new book could live up to that opinion. I am SO happy to report that this book is another home run, totally out-of-the-ball park winner of a book. The lay out is very well considered and the instructions are superlative - perfectly illustrated with photos that relate directly to the image. I couldn't wait to begin experimenting! One of the things that intrigued me as I read through the book was a description of Venetian Plaster - something I had never heard of before - "...Venetian Plaster gives you a unique finish that cannot be replicated with any other medium....". A tall order in my opinion. I got some of this miraculous stuff though and experimented and now have a new favorite mixed media tool. . I can't wait to try more surface treatments from this book. It's a must have for the bookshelf of artists of all sorts - especially for fine arts, mixed media artists and visual journalers. You just can't go wrong by buying this book!

I return to this book time and time again when I am facing a blank canvas. There are so many ideas in this book and I love that each new technique can be accomplished in just a few steps. It's great for those of us who love to layer and are always thinking, "What now?"

I fell in love with this book when I first saw it and bought it a few weeks later. I have been wanting to experiment with different techniques and this book as so many fun techniques to try alone or in combination for all sorts of projects. Some of them are simple with things most artist have in their home, others require things that people may or may not have. I look foreword to trying ever single one of these techniques.

Some old techniques (crackle paste and plastic wrap) and some new (ventilation tape and dishwasher rinse aid) make for a creative and inspiring book! Each mixed media example is presented in a unique way, with many variations for each technique. Very good instructions, complete materials lists, and clear step-by-step pictures. Troubleshooting tips are included for each technique. Some great finished projects are included, too. The only downside is that this is a softcover book. A hardcover book would withstand frequent use better---and this is a book that I will be using frequently! It was a very good purchase. This is probably not for newbie artists---but it's definitely a great source for those with experience (moderate to advanced) in painting and mixed media.
