From The CriticsReviewer: Samad Hashimi, MD (University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics)
Description: This 12th edition of a surgery review has 500+ questions and answers along with a good list of reference material.
Purpose: Intended for students of surgery who are planning on taking USMLE 2 or 3, it describes each answer and why it is correct. It is a great tool for preparation for any board type exam. This series references the current versions of major surgical texts used by most students/residents/practitioners of surgery. Some articles referenced, unfortunately, are 20 years old.
Audience: It is aimed at all students who are preparing to take USMLE 2 or 3.
Features: The book addresses all sections covered by most standardized tests. Trauma and GI surgery have the most questions. Areas such as neurosurgery and pediatrics are not covered, but most of the important areas in each field are addressed by the limited questions.
Assessment: This is a great pocket-sized book that most students can use to study even on busy services. Each question does a great job of covering a major topic in a short time. One of the shortcomings is the lack of diagrams/charts/tables. If students learn by graphics, this book is not for them.
