Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Celso Agner, MD, MS, MSc (Michigan Neurology Partners)
Description: Movement disorders have been described since antiquity. However, treatment modalities became available just recently. In addition, surgical management for movement disorders had its major development when imaging technology reached the current state, allowing for accurate positioning of electrodes deep in the brain for monitoring, stimulation, and ablation. This book reviews the current concepts on the topic.
Purpose: The purpose is to review all current surgical techniques for the management of tremor, Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and other movement disorders. The authors clearly meet all objectives.
Audience: Neurosurgeons, neurologists, and neuropsychologists are the main audience for this book. The authors are world renowned professionals.
Features: The 16 chapters cover the realm of surgery for movement disorders. As a book with the main purpose of briefly explaining each aspect of movement disorder surgery, it reflects the feeling, knowledge, and practice of neurosurgeons and neurologists dealing with the problem of refractory movement disorders in their practices. The book is very well illustrated, composed, and supplied with a good number of pertinent references.
Assessment: This is an excellent book for major neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroscience libraries.
