Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Mark R Hutchinson, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This is a compendium of total knee techniques co-edited by two orthopedic surgeons who trained with John Insall, one of the most respected leaders in the field. They brought together a myriad of impressive authors to share the skills, ideas, and reviews of every facet of total knee arthroplasty.
Purpose: Their purpose is to create a comprehensive and thorough book on techniques of total knee arthroplasty. Although this goal is not unique, the collection of experts gathered by the editors is impressive and provides an excellent range of topics from preoperative planning to the most complex of revision or complication issues.
Audience: Residents and practitioners alike would find this a worthy addition to their library. It is an excellent reference for any surgeon who performs total knee arthroscopy, including revision surgeons, and it would make an worthwhile addition for the orthopedic library.
Features: The table of contents is well organized and easily guides the user to specific areas of interest. The glossary of implants at the back of the book is a unique and valuable feature. Numerous available implants with their radiographic images are presented, which assists the revision surgeon in identifying any pre-existing implant which in turn can simplify revision or polyethylene exchange. The quality of radiographs and line drawings is excellent and assists the reader tremendously. "A picture is worth a thousand words."
Assessment: This is a valuable addition to the literature and has unique and current contributions even if you already own a book on total knee arthroplasty.
