This is Glennette Turner's first published book, and is somewhat rare. It is a story of an African-American grade school teacher who is leaving her position at the end of the
year. The kids find out about it and are upset, because they really like her (Ms. Turner was a grade school teacher before she turned to freelance writing). They decide to throw a surprise party for her, and the book is how they go about their plans, including some other teachers, without Mrs. Burns finding out. It is a delightful story and some of the children she taught suggested some of the characters in the book - and the boys are quite like the author's boys! Taped to the inside front cover is a newspaper clipping with a photograph of the author, regarding a film that was made entitled "The Underground Railroad in DuPage County, Illinois." The clipping has slightly yellowed the opposite page, which is signed and dated by the author. 8 1/2" x 7 1/4" wide. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall.
